Referencing The Archive

Please refer to our copyright terms before using the Jinnah Archive as a resource whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes.

Searching the Archive

Use the search facility to find what you’re looking for. The whole database of speeches, correspondence, annotations and appendices are fully searchable. Individual works can also be located by their document number (see examples below).

To make searching easier we have standardised spellings of names and places and provided a list which is available directly from the search page.

Referencing the Archive

All works and related annotations on this website have unique document numbers for reference purposes. For example, to refer to Jinnah’s speech at the opening ceremony of the State Bank of Pakistan, you would cite the reference as:

Jinnah Archive, No. 01480107

To refer to an annotation from any of the documents, simply insert a forward slash followed by the number of the annotation after the document number. For example, to refer to annotation no. 3 from Jinnah’s speech at the opening ceremony of the State Bank of Pakistan, you would cite the reference as:

Jinnah Archive, No. 01480107/03 (Aug 2007)

Note: Occasionally the annotations are edited to incorporate new information and may change in content (we take care not to change the numerical order of the annotations). For this reason it is advisable to refer to the date a document was last updated (as shown above). This information is always available at the top of the document.

All appendices are also numbered and again should be referenced using a forward slash after the document number, e.g.:

Jinnah Archive, No. 01480107/App2 (Aug 2007)
